Lycoming College athletic complex plan approved

City Council approved a land development plan for Lycoming College Shangraw Athletic Complex.

A building is planned for locker rooms, showers, a press box, bleachers, concession stand, and additional parking at the soccer and lacrosse stadium at 99 Union Ave. The expanded parking will give a total of 121 spaces.

“This will alleviate concerns during events,” said Gary Knarr, city zoning officer.

Council tabled a vote on a lot consolidation and land development for Williamsport Baseball Inc. The entity, created as land holding non-profit organization by the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, is applying to develop a seven-field baseball and softball complex at 2 Rose St.

Council approved amending ordinance on blighted properties to include commercial and industrial properties.

“This expands the capability the Redevelopment Authority,” Councilman Dave Banks said.

The idea was brought up by the blighted property review committee overseen by Chairman Patrick Marty, he said.

The amendment adds the commercial and industrial properties to the blighted lists, giving the authority the ability to remove these eyesores and ensure better use of the buildings.
