Spring and summer house contest approved

A contest similar to the Best Decorated Holiday House in winter months has been approved for the spring and summer seasons for residences in the Borough of South Williamsport.

Councilman Dave Geise just received positive votes from others on borough council for the contest which is to be decided on residents who will vote for their favorite houses online on the borough Website.

Geise’s ideas for spring entries might be called Best Transformation of a Home or the Comeback Kid Award. For summer houses the title might be Grand Champion with Overall Lovely Home with the Best Curb Appeal.

The contest does not have to be limited to single winners but can include several entries finishing first place, second and third place, he said.

The concept is to invoke a sense of pride and to see if what one neighborhood homeowner does inspires others to follow suit.

Geise has asked for staff to have information technology specialist in the borough develop a way to tabulate votes via the borough website.

Once the work is completed, the borough will announce the details and encourage citizens to vote.

The announcement may be done through a borough Facebook page in addition to the website.

The deadline is envisioned for June 1 for the Comeback Kid award and Sept. 1 for the grand champion.

Other ideas are being collected before a finalized contest is created, Geise said.
