Montoursville store donates supply-filled backpacks to kids

A Verizon store in Montoursville handed out backpacks stocked with school supplies to children preparing for the 2021-22 academic year as part of an annual giveaway on Sunday.

This is the ninth consecutive year TCC, which is a Verizon-authorized chain, took part in the School Rocks Backpack Giveaway.

Several times a year, TCC organizes giveaways to support different groups, according to TCC district manager Kala Ragan, who helped distribute backpacks at the Verizon store on Loyalsock Avenue. in Montoursville.

“Our company does a lot of giving back,” Ragan said. “This is something we believe in very strongly.”

Children and their families approached tables outside the store lined with backpacks filled with pencils, a pencil case, a notebook and folder. Additionally, kids were invited to take Rice Krispy Treats and bottled water.

The Montoursville store was slated to donate up to 150 backpacks on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Around 750 TCC and Wireless Zone stores nationwide donated more than 140,000 backpacks.

“A lot of companies donate, and that’s great, but we get to be out in the community and see (the people) ourselves,” Ragan said.
