Sydney Robertson, of Williamsport, was crowned this year’s Miss Pennsylvania USA in the annual competition that took place on July 30 and 31 at the Richland Performing Arts Center in Johnstown. She was also awarded Miss Congeniality and Miss Photogenic.

“Really, it’s an honor because it’s something that not everyone has the opportunity to do. What I want to do is to uplift other women, and to be a light for other people,” said Robertson.

Robertson has been a dedicated advocate for the self-empowerment of women.

“A message I want people to hear from me, and especially women, is to never give up on yourself or your dreams. I’ve overcome multiple personal challenges, emotionally and physically and at one point. I wasn’t sure if I’d ever feel well again. But through determination, self-love, listening to those that have my best interest at heart, and a whole community of people supporting me along the way, I am experiencing a life of recovery and wholeness,” said Robertson.

In 2014, she was awarded the title of Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA. During this competition, she won the Miss Congeniality and Miss Photogenic awards. Altogether, Robertson has won three Miss Congeniality awards.

“She’s very authentic — She won Miss Congeniality three times in Pennsylvania, being true to herself, being kind — She’s a very kind and generous person. … Sydney is also very articulate. She’s a great communicator, she’s a very heartfelt person,” said Allan Robertson, Sydney’s father.

Robertson is a licensed aesthetician. She previously did professional modeling in NYC, and has been published numerous times in Seventeen Magazine.

With the Miss Pennsylvania title, Robertson will receive sponsorship for the Miss USA competition.

“An incredible part of winning the state title is having the chance to work with your sponsors, experts in their fields. Whether it be fitness, wardrobe or brand building, they really help you be your best at the next competition,” said Robertson.

A native to Williamsport, Robertson often donates her time and resources to local charities. This year will be her fifth year fundraising for Toys for Tots.

“I want to give back to my community by showing the love and support that I was given by my sponsors, friends and family while I prepared for Miss Pennsylvania. … Whether it be at a charity fundraiser, a fun interview with a local news station, or a one-on-one conversation with a young woman, I want people to experience the love I have for my hometown, and all of Pennsylvania,” said Robertson.

On Nov. 29, Robertson will represent Pennsylvania at Miss USA 2021 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. If she wins the next competition, she will be the second Miss Pennsylvania USA to represent the United States at Miss Universe following Miss USA 1971 Michele McDonald.
