Ribbon cutting marks opening of Geisinger Medical Center Muncy
Early morning drizzles and cloudy skies couldn’t dampen the mood of the ribbon cutting event at the new Geisinger Medical Center Muncy.
“It’s phenomenal,” said Brian Rinker, market president of Eastern Pennsylvania, Highmark. “The openness, the brightness, people getting care in a setting like this is just going to be terrific.”
Attended by members of the media, dignitaries and employees of both Highmark and Geisinger, the event served as a chance to give a sneak peek into the new 120,000-square-foot medical facility, located at 255 Route 220 in Muncy Township.
“Geisinger Medical Center Muncy brings to fruition a vision to make better health care easier for this region by providing high quality care closer to home,” said Matt Walsh, Geisinger chief operating officer.
“This partnership is proof that a shared vision and goal can bring incredible things to the community,” Walsh said, noting the importance of the partnership between Highmark and Geisinger.
Speaking about the importance of and innovation that the healthplex brings to the area, Geisinger CEO Dr. Jaewon Ryu talked about how the new center aims to house all of the patients’ needs in one location.
“We want to make it easier for people to see their physician, their specialist, their pharmacy, all of those services, by having it all housed in one place,” Ryu said.
Ryu also made it clear the scope of services that the new facility will offer to the community.
“If you need more advanced services, then this place is going to deliver that too. Whether it’s surgeries, infusions, chemotherapy, there’s a whole host of services that are planned and will be live here in a matter of days or weeks, and we’re thrilled to bring them to this community.”
Not only does the new medical center make access to healthcare easier for the community, the Muncy campus is also notable for housing a Clinical Decision Unit, the first of its kind within the Geisinger healthcare community.
“The Clinical Decision Unit is an advanced treatment and diagnostics space for folks who may need a handful of hours to really figure out what’s going on,” Ryu said. “But by spending that extra time, you might be able to avoid an unnecessary hospitalization and get that person back home and into the communities faster. So, we’re super thrilled about that.”
Ryu alsocommented on Geisinger’s long standing-relationship with Lycoming County.
“Geisinger’s been in these communities and this northcentral area for decades,” Ryu said. “We’re super thrilled to be bringing the latest in our care delivery model into these areas, specifically within Lycoming County and here in Muncy.”
