3 appointed to fill vacancies at South Williamsport Area School District

South Williamsport Area School Board voted to fill three open seat vacancies earlier this week at a work session meeting.

Those appointed were Ben Brigandi for Region I; Summer Bukeavich, Region II and John Hitesman, Region III. They will be sworn in at an upcoming meeting.

Brigandi held the board seat in the fall and the board opened the seat for public application with two seats in the other two regions at its past meeting.

He has two children at Rommelt and is a homeowner in the district.

Today, Brigandi is an adjunct instructor at Lycoming College and has a full-time job as a content manager of the annual High School Sports Awards shows run by USA Today Network Ventures. Before that, Brigandi was sports editor at the Sun-Gazette.

Brigandi’s philosophy is to ensure students are healthy, both physically and mentally and to ensure his decisions are in the best interest of the district tax payers.

Bukeavich has lived in the district since 2013 and her daughter attends Central Elementary. A teacher of several business courses at Pennsylvania College of Technology, she seeks to be a member that builds collaborative relationships with others on the board and in the community.

Bukeavich believed she could be an effective advocate for parents, students and the community to help to make decisions that would benefit the district.

Hitesman, a resident of DuBoistown, is a retired educator having 30 years of experience in the district as secondary English teacher.

Additionally, Hitesman was English department chair; chair of the Career Pathways; a class adviser; club sponsor, PTO booth volunteer, faculty mentor, a member of the Strategic Planning Committee, a negotiator on the education association, STAR team member and 1975 graduate of South Williamsport Area High School.
