South Side fills vacancy, addresses loose pets after cops kill aggressive dog
South Williamsport Borough Council appointed an East Mountain Avenue resident to the council.
Tim Shellman was appointed by motion to fill a vacancy and will serve until the next municipal election, said Joe Orso, borough solicitor.
The council was informed about a recent interdiction of large quantities of marijuana and how South Williamsport Borough Cpl. William McGinnis and Officers Gareck Esposito and Seth Stropp stopped the vehicle with cargo that included the packaged marijuana. Police here continue to conduct patrols and are successful in the interdiction of illegal drugs and firearms heading into Williamsport and the boroughs and townships of Lycoming County via Route 15, said Steven W. Cappelli, South Williamsport borough manager and public safety director.
An aggressive dog that attacked a man in the area of Hill and Clinton streets and went after two officers was put down fatally by shots fired by officers, Cappelli said.
“Enough is enough regarding four-legged domestic terrorism in this community,” Cappelli said.
The borough recently amended its dog ordinance, meant to enforce use of leashes when the animal is outside and reduce incidents involving aggressive dog attacks.
