Centennial anniversary to be heralded with party

The Genetti Hotel is pulling out all the stops Thursday evening to celebrate the100th anniversary of the opening of the Lycoming Hotel.

The event, being held in concert with the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce and the Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society, is open to the public and will serve as a fundraiser for the museum, said Kathy Taylor, Genetti general manager.

The event will coincide, 100 years later “almost to the day the hotel opened,” Taylor said.

The evening will summon the atmosphere of the early 20th century with many in attendance dressing in period costume, antique automobiles on the street, an authentic speakeasy in the bar and the presentation of a documentary film on the historic hotel.

“We want local folks to come out and help us celebrate,” Taylor said.

The celebration begins at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the Garden/Terrace ballroom, the Grand Ballroom and on William Street, which will be closed to automobile traffic from the Genetti parking lot to West Fourth Street.

Hotel tours will be offered, as will be dessert stations in the Grand Ballroom.

Music, too, will be a big part of the evening, with four groups of musicians arranged by Walt Straiton Productions in different places around the property.

A formal program at 6 p.m. will feature Kevin Head as emcee, citations, the documentary and comments by Taylor, Joe Fisher, director of operations, and Gus Genetti, the hotel’s owner.

The evening will wind up at 7:30 p.m. with the sounds of Kristen and Leo in Windows on Fourth Street.
