Service clubs set to make First Friday fun for everyone

Visitors can expect games, activities, a bounce house and more at this year’s Kids’ First Friday today. Service club organization sponsors of the event include The Kiwanis Club of Williamsport, The Newberry Lions, The Williamsport Lions Club, The Rotary Club of Williamsport and The Junior League of Williamsport.

“We primarily have three objectives with this — one is to make a fun community event, to get people downtown to see their neighbors and friends,” said Mike Barclay, member of the Kiwanis. “The other is we’ve invited other organizations that support children. They all will be doing a fun, interactive activity.”

Local organizations participating in the event include Head Start, The Salvation Army, Dwell Orphan Care, Safe Kids Lycoming County, Heartworks, Early Learning Resource Center, Lycoming Foster Care, The YMCA, Adelphoi Village, Master Gardeners, Families United Network, Lycoming State Health Center and AmeriCorps.

“Our objective is that they all have a fun activity for the children: We have rock painting, bean bag tossing, making boats, washable tattoos, necklaces, something to occupy the child,” Barclay said. “Then the parents have the opportunity to talk to the organizations. There may be something specific either for them or somebody they know where these organizations may be able to support their situation.”

The activities put on by the service clubs will be available from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and will be located in the parking lot next to Bullfrog Brewery.
