Loyalsock Township school board seeks improvements to Lycoming Career and Technology Center
The Loyalsock School Board approved several measures at their recent meeting, including added class options at Lyco CTC.
The board approved a bond agreement with East Lycoming School District for the repayment of 1/6 of the total cost of a bond in an amount not to exceed $5 million plus interest over a 15-year period.
This bond would be used for improvements and renovations of facilities at Lycoming Career and Technology Center.
The move follows on the heels of the center receiving a $5 million grant towards new construction efforts from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant courtesy of the state Office of the Budget.
“They’re looking to put in a diesel program as well as a welding program and that will provide our students with amazing new opportunities that will really lead to some local education
opportunities as well,” said board Vice President Lynn Frey, who sits on the Lyco CTC committee.
“When we think about the education and academics, we’re also looking at the community relationships we’re developing, so it’s an opportunity to enhance our community and hopefully keep our graduates close,” Frey said.
In staffing matters, the board approved the transfer of Jannette LaComba from full-time technology/library paraprofessional to a technology specialist, effective Nov. 1, with a prorated salary of $40,000 for the 2024-2025 school year; Shannon Butters was appointed as a data coordinator, effective Oct. 14, with a prorated salary of $43,178 for the 2024-2025 school year; Madison DiCamillo as a temporary professional employee assigned as a Spanish teacher; Michael Maher as full-time maintenance employee, effective Nov. 4, at an hourly rate of $17; Jacob Maronski as full-time custodial employee, effective Oct. 14, at an hourly rate of $15; Elvia Maher; part-time paraprofessional, effective Oct. 9, at an hourly rate of $15; and Vicki Killian as substitute food service employee, effective Nov. 4, at an hourly rate of $15.50; as well as several winter athletic staffing positions at various stipends.
The board approved additional architectural and engineering services for the locker room/restrooms improvement project from Marotta/Main Architects, Lancaster, in the amount of $24,500.
The proposal is for additional design options for the girls locker room and boys showers area, and does not commit the board to funding further construction action on the designs should they decide not to pursue them, said business manager and board secretary Dan Egly.
The next board meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4.
