2 more officers to join Hughesville Police Department
Hughesville Borough Council voted to hire two part-time police officers and considered other matters during its most recent meeting.
The two, William Macinnis and Bill Hagemeyer, are experienced law enforcement officials who’ve served in other local police departments.
“These guys will help,” Hughesville Police Chief Rod Smith said. “They are willing to work two days a week. They will fill holes (in the department).”
Macinnis was a police officer in South Williamsport and Hagemeyer in Montoursville.
Wages for the positions were not released by borough officials. Smith requested that council consider eventually adding a full-time officer to the department.
In a related matter, Mayor Richard Smith reported to council that Picture Rocks Borough recently signed off on an annual agreement with Hughesville for police coverage. Under the contract, Picture Rocks pays Hughesville $31,860 for 2025.
Council voted to appoint Walt Reed as a zoning hearing board alternate. It was reported that no personnel have yet been hired to fill vacancies for positions in the borough and with the water authority.
Council tabled other matters, including a decision on replacing heaters for the municipal garage.
Council President Andrew Mook noted that many property owners have not been shoveling their sidewalks following snowstorms this winter.
The next meeting is set for 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at the municipal building.
