Just two days after his 18th birthday, Tahir A. Dixon appeared before District Judge Aaron Biichle to face charges accusing him of allegedly firing multiple shots at a moving vehicle on Second Avenue in late September, city police said.
Dixon, of 604 Thomas Ave., “discharged seven shots at an occupied vehicle as it drove past (him),” in the 600 block of Second Avenue about 12:10 p.m. on Sept. 28. A family having a yard sale outside their home dove for cover as the shots rang out, a witness told a newspaper reporter at the scene.
“Witnesses and video show two males walking north on Second Avenue; one wearing a reddish hooded sweatshirt and a second one wearing a light blue hooded sweatshirt and dark pants,” according to an affidavit filed by Agent Aaron Levan. Witnesses told investigators that words were exchanged between people in a black Nissan sedan that had just turned north onto Second Avenue from Waltz Place and the two individuals walking, the court document stated. As the car continued north, “the male wearing the light blue hooded sweatshirt produces a handgun from his abdomen and begins firing at the Nissan. Two shots were heard on a video followed by a pause and then five more shots in rapid succession,” the affidavit stated. The gunman is seen on video running north on Second Avenue and west on Park Avenue, police said.
Two witnesses identified Dixon as the alleged gunman, Levan said.
Dixon was arraigned Thursday on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a minor, recklessly endangering another person and carrying a firearm without a license. He was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.
No one was reported injured in the shooting, police said. It was unknown if any of the occupants in the car ever came forward and spoke with investigators about the incident.
