Sun-Gazette to hold Easter craft and book sale this Saturday

The Williamsport Sun-Gazette will hold its first fundraiser in support of a new initiative, Newspapers for Veterans, as part of its Easter Craft and Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The event is free and open to the public.

Funds raised during the event will help cover the cost of newspaper subscriptions for veterans, according to singles sales manager Cathy Hendricks.

“This is a new program we have in circulation here and at the Lock Haven Express,” Hendricks said.

Veterans with questions about the program are encouraged to reach out to Hendricks at the Sun-Gazette.

Anyone with an existing balance wishing to cancel their subscription can also pay forward the remaining amount into the program, Hendricks said.

A change from the previous Sun-Gazette holiday-themed events this time around is the addition of a book sale to the mix.

“We haven’t had a book sale in years, and they used to have them all the time,” Hendricks said.

As the goal of the sale is to raise funds, rather than revenue, the books will be reasonably priced and shoppers will have the option to pack a bag for $5, Hendricks said.

“It helps people out. Summer’s coming. Stop in and stock up on your beach reading or some new books for your staycation,” she said.

Several vendors will be on hand for the event, including DJC Crafting Dreams, who specializes in custom designed shirts, cups and more; Cristi’s Dazzling Bling, offering several unique jewelry pieces; and Lotus Strings, with a selection of malas, which can be used to aid in meditation exercises.

For those working up a thirst while shopping for that perfect Easter gift, Try the Chai will be on hand.

Other vendors taking part will be Baking Me Crazy Cakes, Pretty as a Penny, Busy B Bookmarks, Dennis Designs, Patti’s Fairy Garden and Tedo Creations.

Starting at $2.99/week.
