Volunteers, non-profits needed for Lycoming County United Way’s Day of Action

The Lycoming County United Way is looking for volunteers and non-profits as they gear up for their annual “Day of Action.” The event is slated for July 1 from 8 a.m., to 2 p.m.
This year will mark the first time that volunteers will be working not only in Lycoming County, as in the past, but also in Tioga and Sullivan counties.
The community-wide event provides support to local non-profits through hands-on service projects. These can range from landscaping and painting to facility improvements and assembling care packages.
“Day of Action is a beautiful reminder that when we show up for one another–even in small ways–we create big change,” said Amber Newell, Director of Community Impact at Lycoming County United Way.
“It’s not just about the projects we complete, but the connections we make. Every painted wall, every weed pulled, every care package assembled is a moment that says, ‘You and the work you are doing matter.’ That’s what builds stronger communities,” she said.
Some of the projects that have been addressed in other years in Lycoming County included painting at the YWCA’s Liberty House and various jobs at Sojourner Truth Ministries.
Newell noted that there are already two projects planned in Tioga County. One for Partners in Progress and the other at the Learning Tree, Wellsboro.
Registration is currently open for both volunteers and non-profits that want to participate.
In the past the United Way has sent team captains to the sites, but this year they are asking that there be a captain from the site there to orient the volunteers to what needs to be done and also as a point of contact.
“Basically you have a team captain that’s from your staff that knows your facility and knows what you can and can’t do,” Newell said.
Individuals, families, business and organizations are encouraged to participate and make a tangible impact in their communities. For more information or to sign up, visit the Lycoming County United Way’s official Day of Action page at https://www.lcuw.org/day-of-action/.
Volunteers will be required to sign a waiver form in order to participate.
