Montoursville man charged with attempted homicide in Union County

A Montoursville man is facing criminal attempted homicide and other charges after state police were dispatched to a restaurant in the 7000 block of West Branch Highway in Kelly Township, Union County, for a report of a female struck by a vehicle at approximately 7:45 a.m. Thursday morning, according to a state police press release.

Upon arrival, troopers discovered two alleged victims, both females, one of whom related that after running over the other alleged victim, Caleb Timothy Daniels, 21, of Montoursville, fled the area.

The three had visited the restaurant together, during which Daniels was informed that one of the females no longer wished to continue a relationship with him, the release said.

Daniels then snatched a wallet from her hand, exited the restaurant and got into his 2015 Chevrolet Cruz. The two females were able to retrieve the items from the vehicle and return to the restaurant, however, Daniels reentered the restaurant and took possession of the wallet once again.

As the two alleged victims followed, Daniels allegedly put the car in reverse and ran over one of the females, causing, “significant unknown injuries,” state police said in the release.

After running her over, Daniels pulled the vehicle forward, exited and allegedly began a second altercation in order to retrieve his cell phone, before fleeing the scene.

He was taken into custody a short time later, police said.

The female struck by the vehicle was transported to Wellspan Evangelical Hospital, and life flighted to Geisinger Medical Center.

In addition to attempted criminal homicide, Daniels was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, robbery, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, harassment and selling Furnishing Liquor to Minors, by District Judge Jeffrey Rowe, and jailed in the Union County Prison in lieu of $400,000.00 cash bail.
