James E. ‘Jim’ Scott

James E. “Jim” Scott, 91, of Williamsport, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at The Gatehouse at Divine Providence Hospital. Surviving is his loving wife of 68 years, Peggy A. (Stuempfle) Scott.

Born Feb. 27, 1928, in Nisbet, he was a son of the late Walter L. and Dorothy G. (Whipple) Scott.

Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for over 20 years as a crane operator and car inspector and retired from Phillips ECG in 1990. Jim was an active member of Nisbet United Methodist Church and served as a trustee.

Jim enjoyed bowling, baseball and collecting and operating model trains. He was a men’s baseball and women’s softball umpire and volunteered in the kitchen during the Little League World Series. Jim was a member of American Legion Post 617, South Williamsport, and the John F. Laedlein Lodge 707, F.&A.M., and a life-member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 145 where he was manager of the bowling alley. Jim also enjoyed gardening, canning, traveling and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Deborah Poisel (Dr. Richard), of Arizona, Paul Scott (Denice), of South Williamsport, Linda Tate (Michael), of Williamsport, and Karen Blackburn (Christopher), of Mountville; son-in-law, Thomas Bryan, of Florida, daughter-in-law, Holly Scott, of Florida; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Scott (Elaine), of Williamsport, and Ronald Scott, of Cogan Station, and a sister, Barbara Scott, of Williamsport.

In addition to his parents Jim was preceded in death by a son, Bruce E. Scott, a daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Bryan, a grandson, Thomas “Tommy” Bryan II, a brother, Robert Scott (Mary), and a sister-in law, Beverly Scott.

A memorial service to honor the life of Jim will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Nisbet United Methodist Church, 155 W. Village Drive, Nisbet, with the Rev. R. Bruce Wallace officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to the Nisbet United Methodist Church, 155 W. Village Drive, Nisbet, PA 17702.
