Susan S. Feist

Susan S. Feist, 93, of Williamsport, passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, at home surrounded by family.

Born June 4, 1926, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Edward P. Sr. and Miriam (Doebler) Schweikart.

Susan was a graduate of Jersey Shore High School Class of 1944 and worked as a sales clerk for Sears before becoming the head of catalog sales. Susan continued to work as a caregiver until age 83. She was an active member of St. John’s- Newberry United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Newberry Lioness volunteering with the club for 35 years. Being very active in the community, Susan was a social butterfly, making friends everywhere she went. Susan considered herself a professional volunteer having served at the Williamsport Hospital in the gift shop, as an ICU receptionist and hospital board chair for many years. She also served on the Lycoming County Prison Board for over 30 years and was a founding member of the Center for Independent Living Board. Susan enjoyed doing puzzles but her true pride and joy was her family.

Surviving are four children, Alan L. Feist (Marsha Bergman), of Linden, Gary S. Feist, of Nisbet, Karen S. Minteer (Kenneth), of Trout Run, and Debra A. Freezer (Mark), of Cogan Station; eight grandchildren, Scott and Richard Feist, Sheri Jo Coppola, Amy Patt, Amber Sciacca, Kristi Freezer, Jon Michael Minteer, and Mark Freezer Jr., 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Retorick, of Montoursville; a daughter-in-law, Susan A. Feist; sister-in-law, Gladys Schweikart; and several nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Sherwood L. Feist on Jan. 6, 1988; a son, Dennis G. Feist; three sisters, Marion Grove, Evelyn Billman, and Catherine Carr; one brother, Edward P. Schweikart Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Trudy Feist; and a grandson-in-law, Jeremy Patt.

A funeral service to honor the life of Susan will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at St. John’s-Newberry UMC, 2101 Newberry St., Williamsport with Rev. Lenore Hosier officiating. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. Williamsport.
