William E. Toner Hollick

William E. Toner Hollick, 76, of Waterville, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020, at The Williamsport Home.

Born March 5, 1943 in Jersey Shore, he was a son to Belmon D. and Martha E. Toner Hollick.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathryn Knowlden Hollick; a daughter, Erin J. Thomas (Samuel), of Jersey Shore; a son, Jared M. Hollick (Kristin), of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; grandchildren, Charlotte, James, Alivia and Matthew Hollick; a brother, B. Michael (Jo Anne), of Mifflintown; three sisters, Frances E. Hollick, of Jersey Shore, Dorian E. Myers, of Jersey Shore, and Julie K. Mowery, of Jersey Shore; many in-laws, nieces and nephews and their families.

Toner was a graduate from Jersey Shore High School, Class of 1961, and Lock Haven University. Upon graduation from college he was hired by Williamsport Area School District to run their summer reading program at Camp Kiwanis, Salladasburg, which he did for nearly 20 years. He was an elementary school teacher for 34 years in the Jersey Shore Area School District at Salladasburg Elementary School.

He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the Finance Committee, Pastor-Parish Relations Committee and the Administrative Board. He also served as trustee, being the treasurer for some years. Toner was also involved with Boy Scout Troop 31, for 65 years, a member of Order of the Arrow, and he was an Eagle Scout. As an adult he served on the Troop Committee as treasurer for most of those years, but also as chairman, Scout master and Troop leader. In 1971, he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for “distinguished service to Scout youth.”

Toner had a deep love for Pine Creek and served for 18 years as Cummings Township supervisor as chairman.

Toner was selfless in the giving of his time to his family, friends, church and the many organizations he loved and cared about.

He was also a charter member of Pine Creek Council of Governments, Pine Creek Rail-Trail Advisory Committee, Pine Creek Watershed Council and Pine Creek Preservation Association, where he served as treasurer for many years. He also served for 15-plus years on the Lycoming County Planning Commission.

Visitation hours will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Friday evening, Feb. 21, at First United Methodist Church, 236 S. Main St., Jersey Shore. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at the church. Pastor Larry Siikanen will officiate.

Private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Family will provide flowers and suggest memorial contributions in Toner’s name be made to the First United Methodist Church, 236 S. Main St. Jersey Shore, PA 17740, or the Pine Creek Preservation Association, P.O. Box 11, Waterville, PA 17776.
