Charles L. Tice Sr.

Charles L. Tice Sr., 93, of Williamsport, passed away unexpectedly at UPMC Susquehanna on Monday, July 13, 2020.

He was born in Williamsport on June 6, 1927, a son of Earl and Louise (Artley) Tice.

Charles served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After returning from the service he received his B.A. from Lycoming College and went on to receive a master’s degree in education from Bucknell University.

He taught in the Williamsport Area School District for 35 years, retiring in 1987. Charles was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels as well as other divisions of the Office of Aging and volunteered at the polls during voting. He also was a member of the Kiwanis Club and of St. Ann Catholic Church. When he was younger, he enjoyed bowling and cooking, but most recently he enjoyed his flower garden, helping people and spending time with family.

Surviving are his wife, the former Teresa R. Staron; they were married on May 16, 1953. In addition, he is survived by a son, Charles Jr. at home, a daughter, Mary (Tim) Turner of Williamsport, six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, a brother, John Tice of New York, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his fur babies, Bootsie and Bella. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, LaVerne Tice.

The family will receive friends at Crouse Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport, on Friday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. (Please use the parking area on the corner of Mulberry and Third Sts.). Proper social distancing and adherence to state and CDC guidelines are encouraged at both the visitation and the Mass.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1220 Northway Road, Williamsport, on Saturday, July 18, with Rev. John J. Chmil officiating. Following church, full military honors will be accorded, by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions in Charles’s name to St. Ann Catholic Church or Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17701.
