Paul B. Sweely
Paul B. Sweely, 89, husband of Grace (Thompson) Sweely and the late Beverly Sweely of Jersey Shore, passed away on Friday, Oct. 16, 2020 at The Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport.
Born in Jersey Shore on April 26, 1931, he was the son of the late Ralph P. and Helen (Brown) Sweely.
Paul was a 1948 graduate of Jersey Shore High School.
He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Paul was employed for over 45 years as an engineer for the New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail Rail Lines, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of the former First Baptist Church of Jersey Shore and a member of Nippenose Bible Fellowship Church, Jersey Shore.
Paul was a member of LaBelle Vallee Lodge 232, F&AM, Jersey Shore, a life-member of American Legion Post 3115, Avis, and a life-member of VFW Post 5859, Jersey Shore.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Linda McCauley (Terry) of Jersey Shore, a son, Gary W. Sweely (Dianna) of Jersey Shore, a stepson, Paul Wagner of Williamsport, a stepdaughter, Joyce Liegey (Stanley) of Avis; a sister, Helen Hopple of Jersey Shore, and six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents and first wife he was predeceased by a son Richard Sweely, a brother Robert Sweely, a sister Laura Fryer, and a stepson Russell Wagner.
A graveside service will be held in Jersey Shore Cemetery, Jersey Shore, on Friday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dave McCoy officiating. The Jersey Shore VFW and American Legion Joint Honor Guard will be providing full military honors. If desired memorials may be made in Paul’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted by the family to the Wayne P. Urbine Funeral Home, Inc. (d/b/a Cremation Society of North Central PA) 408 S. Main St., Jersey Shore.
