Ruth Marie Miller
Ruth Marie Miller, 91, of Montoursville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020 at Valley View Nursing Home.
Ruth was born June 5, 1929 in Williamsport. She was the oldest child of Marion (Fleming) and Albert Miller. She was raised on Scott Street and was the last survivor of her siblings.
Ruth graduated from Williamsport High School, where she met the love of her life, Lyle Miller. They were married for almost 60 years until his death in 2007. Together they traveled (camping) across the U.S. spending their golden winter seasons in Mesa, Ariz., and summers at Lyle’s Landing on the Susquehanna River. Ruth was very hospitable; you were always fed a snack and offered a beverage. Her famous saying was “I will get your first one, then you’re on your own.” She was happiest spending time with her family and especially the grandkids and great-grandkids. When the grandkids were young, she enjoyed them dressed in their best, then taking them, one each week, to the grocery store and allowing them to get whatever they wanted. Secondly, she enjoyed cooking a great dinner on Sunday at her home; as well as going to the mall on Wednesday’s shopping, followed by a stop at the Montoursville Legion.
Ruth belonged to Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Montoursville Eastern Star Lodge 365. During her working years, she started at the GRIT Publishing Company and continued going to dinner with the GRIT girls until her health failed. She worked alongside her mother in the kitchen at the Scottish Rite Consistory in Williamsport. She was a homemaker during the time her kids were growing up and in school. She ended her career retiring from Spitler S&S in Montoursville as a secretary.
Surviving are daughter, Diane (Bob) Dunne and their children, Wendy (Brian) Knorr and Robb (Stacey); and grandkids, Cody, Megan, Autumn (Chris) Good, Robyn, Robbie and Brendon; son, Lyle “Skip” (Elaine) and their children, Jamie (Mike) Moyer, Julie (Alec) Persun, and Jennie Miller; and grandkids, Ezra, Isaiah, Braedon, Tori and Cameron. She was known as Gram and GiGi to grandkids and great-grandkids. She also is survived by sister-in-law, Becky (Donald) Stark, and she was a very special “Aunt Ruth” to many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lyle, sister, Shirley Beardsley, brothers, Buzz, Bob and Ed, and a niece, Sherry Lynch; as well as two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
There will be a memorial visitation at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., with COVID-19 precautions followed.
A graveside burial service will be held at Montoursville Cemetery on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. The family will provide flowers.
In lieu of flowers, family would like memorial contributions to be made to The Meadows or Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center.
