H. Luther ‘Boots’ Dieffenbacher
H. Luther “Boots” Dieffenbacher, 95, of Montoursville, passed away on Monday, Nov. 23, 2020.
Born April 19, 1925, he was the son of the late William C. and Anna A. (Lundy) Dieffenbacher.
In 1944, he married Merian “Bridget” Little and together they celebrated 73 years of marriage before her passing in 2017.
Surviving is a son, Rodnie (Gloria) Dieffenbacher; granddaughter, Shelly (Mark) Jolin; great-grandson, Ryan Jolin; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Alford and Leroy Dieffenbacher, and sisters, Mildred Ott, Thelma Heims, and Josephine Barger.
He was employed by the Borough of Montoursville as Street and Water Commissioner for 27 years. Previously he worked for Kremser Brothers.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Montoursville and a life member, and also the oldest member of the Willing Hand Hose Company in Montoursville, while there serving in several capacities including chief, assistant chief and president. Also, he served three terms on Montoursville Borough Council, was a member of Eureka Lodge 335 F&AM, past president of the Bald Eagle Kennel Club, and member of the Wheaton Terrier Club of America.
A private graveside service will be held at Montoursville Cemetery at the convenience of the family with Pastor Michael Hill of Elimsport Valley United Methodist Parish officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Willing Hand Hose Company, 821 Broad St., Montoursville, PA 17754.
