John D. ‘Jack’ Smith III

John D. “Jack” Smith III, 81, of Upper Fairfield Twp., passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020, surrounded by his family at his daughter’s home.

Born Sept. 1, 1939 in Lewisburg, he was the son of the late John D., Jr. and Evelyn R. (Bieber) Smith.

Jack was a 1957 graduate of Milton High School and a 1972 graduate of South Dakota State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in animal science. After high school, he served honorably in the US Navy where he was a Corpsman.

He enjoyed all the time he could spend with his family, and his family was the most important thing in his life. Jack loved to share his knowledge and experience in animal husbandry. His children, grandchildren and many others would often seek out his expertise in this area.

Jack is survived by his four children, Brad D. Smith and his wife Alexandria, of Moorefield, WV, Kimberly L. Winter and her husband Barry, of Cogan Station, Kristen L. Page and her husband Robert, of Wellsboro, and Kelly L. Smith, of Berkeley Springs, WV; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lee Smith, of Coco, FL; and one sister, Carol Kirsche, of Wilmington, NC.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson, Cordell Page, and one brother, George D. Smith.

There will a celebration of Jack’s life announced in the spring of 2021.
