Valerie “Val” Allen Hauser

Valerie “Val” Allen Hauser, 52, of Nisbet, passed away Friday, October 18, 2024 at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany, New York.

Born on July 15, 1972 in Sayre, PA, Valerie was the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Roseanna N. (Squires) Allen.

She was a 1991 graduate of Athens Area High School in Athens, PA, where she participated in track & field, band, and chorus. In 1995, she graduated from Wells College in Aurora, NY, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art and was also awarded the Gertrude H. Freiert Prize in Fine Arts.

Valerie was self-employed as a studio artist and also as a rental proprietor. Her many artistic talents ranged from the visual arts to music, but her specialties were acrylic paintings and charcoal portraiture. Valerie enjoyed art shows, art museums, music, social media, road trips with her wife, watching movies, listening to podcasts and binge-watching both television and streaming video series. She was a true advocate and activist for women’s rights. Her creativity, combined with her warm, fun-loving personality, kindness, generosity, keen sense of humor, and quick wit often brought laughter and joy to others.

On October 10, 2015, Valerie married her partner of six years and the love of her life, Dawn Allen Hauser, and together they shared nine wonderful years of marriage. Val was very devoted to her wife, her family, her friends (regarded as her “found family”), and her beloved dogs Piper and Willow.

In addition to her wife Dawn, Valerie is survived by one brother, Steven “Steve” Allen of Ulster; one sister, Angela “Angie” Allen-Oakley (Robert Brown, Jr.) of Monroeton; one grandmother, Ruth G. Squires of Lebanon; two aunts, Julia “Julie” Squires of Lebanon and Mary Getz (Robert) of Dushore; one uncle, Paul Squires of Lebanon and several nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents; her maternal grandfather; and one sister, Rebecca “Becky” Allen-Neilson.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, followed by a memorial service at noon. The Reverend Dr. Kerry Aucker will officiate the service.
