Shirley Ellen Holt Kinsey

Shirley Ellen Holt Kinsey, 92, of Milton, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Heritage Springs Memory Care surrounded by her family.

Born November 6, 1932, in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Elizabeth (Howell) Holt.

Following graduation from Pembroke High School in Pembroke, Mass., she attended Ursinus College in Pennsylvania and finally graduated from Penn State with a bachelor’s in education in 1953. During her education, she met the love of her life, David, and shared a wonderful marriage of 55 years until his passing in 2007.

After her schooling, she began her career at the Fairfield School District teaching third grade and later teaching at Pennridge School District. Shirley left teaching to work as a case worker with North Penn Home Services taking care of Sullivan and Bradford County. She finally retired from Wyalusing School District after teaching kindergarten and first grade. She was a member of DAR with the General Thomas Mifflin Chapter and a former member of Red Hats Turnpike Gals. She enjoyed reading, making handcrafts, gardening, collecting stamps and model trains, and working on jigsaw puzzles. Outside of her hobbies and work she was a member of the Pennsdale Friends Meeting.

She is survived by three sons, David (Mary) Kinsey, of Marietta, Pa., William (Molly) Kinsey, of Dushore, and Nathan Kinsey, of Laceyville; a daughter, Rebecca Fitzwater and Randy Zimmerman, of Milton; a daughter in-law, Susan Kinsey, of Lopez; an ex daughter-in-law, Diana Kinsey Smith, of Lancaster; a sister, Marcia Thompson, of McAlisterville, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by a daughter, Leslie Beth Kinsey; a granddaughter, Nicole Welton; and a great-grandson, Dante Welton.

In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, there will be a Celebration Of Life Ceremony at the Pennsdale Quaker Meeting House on February 22, 2025 at 11 a.m. With food and fellowship following at the Susquehanna Motorcycle Club in Milton, Pa.
