Shirley Y. Dowling

Shirley Y. Dowling, 81, of Jersey Shore, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2025 at The Williamsport Home with her family by her side. Shirley has been reunited with the love of her life and husband of 45 years, Stephen Dowling, who passed February 4, 2018.

Born March 19, 1943, in Bellefonte, she was a daughter of the late Carl E. and Elsie R. (Flick) Stamm.

Shirley spent her professional career as a housekeeper for the Williamsport Hospital, retiring after 20 years.

Shirley was a kind and nurturing soul who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved painting, working on puzzles, and playing Yahtzee, while also finding comfort in sewing and cooking for those she loved. Above all, she treasured spending time with family, always ensuring that there was room for everyone around her table. Shirley’s heart thrived in the company of others, and she never met a stranger, welcoming all with open arms and a caring spirit.

Surviving are five children, Deborah K. Porter, Wanda M. Alexander, both of Jersey Shore, Kerry L. Bliler (Norman), of Oval, Tina L. Rogers (Fred), of Williamsport, and James A. Dowling (Melissa), of Montoursville; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Genevieve Rearick (Kenneth), Linda Confer (Bill), all of Jersey Shore, Janet Weaver (Ronald) of Middletown, and Eddy Stamm (Susan) of Jersey Shore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Carl J. Breen; a son-in-law, Raymond Alexander; siblings, Robert Stamm, James Stamm, Carl Stamm, Helen Allison, Patricia Baker, Carol Gingerich, and Phyllis Stamm.

A memorial service to honor Shirley’s life will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport. Burial will follow at Green Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service, Thursday, at Sanders.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Shirley’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
