L. June Houseknecht

L. June Houseknecht, 98, of Muncy, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Valley View Rehab and Nursing Center, Montoursville.

Born May 27, 1926, at Unityville in Lycoming County, she was the daughter of the late C. Roy and Bertha M. (Rider) Gardner. June graduated from Hughesville High School in 1944, and began working at Girton Manufacturing in Millville, Pa., as a payroll clerk. She later worked at the First National Bank of Millville for ten years. She then worked for East Lycoming School district for eight years and then returned to banking where she served as branch manager for eleven and a half years with Northern Central Bank. After retiring in 1987, June worked part time at Ranck’s Florist, Millville, Pa., and later for Dr. Il Gon Kim at his medical office, Hughesville, Pa. She was also an auditor for Jordan Township.

June was a member of St. John’s Lutheran (Gordner’s) Church and a former member of the Ladies Aide. After moving to Muncy, Pa. in 2008, she became a member of the 39 Club, the Lycoming County Senior Citizens, and the Widow Mites.

June thoroughly enjoyed her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, baking, floral arranging, shopping, and traveling.

June’s husband, Robert, preceded her in death in January of 2002, her son, Jay G. in May of 2024, and also her loving grandson, Jamie, in April of 2010.

Surviving are her two daughters, Judy A. Kim of Whitestown, Indiana, and Joan D. Clipper (John) of Allentown, Pa., a daughter-in-law, Michele Houseknecht of Benton, and five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2025, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St. Hughesville, Pennsylvania, with Rev. Ronald G. Montgomery, officiating. Burial will follow at Gordner’s Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
