Loyalsock board fills school director vacancy correctly

The Loyalsock Township School Board had a vacancy and filled it with Paul R. Watson II, dean of academic services and college transition at the Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Those are solid professional credentials that earned Watson a stint on the board to fill a term that will expire in December. Between now and then, there will be an election to fill the seat starting in January.

School Board President Sheila J. Yates said Watson was chosen from among five “very well-qualified” candidates. Each applicant received an interview and Watson was chosen after a lengthy deliberation process.

Significantly, the board also publicly named who the five candidates were.

This is the way the process of filling a vacancy is supposed to work. We appreciate the way Loyalsock school board handled this process.
