Language of love: Foundations speak student support
An engineer-turned-educator, Mark Love, recently spent the day with eighth- and ninth-grade students in the South Williamsport Area Junior-Senior High School.
The event of “Engineers Teaching Algebra” was made possible through a grant that the South Williamsport Education Foundation received through the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania.
“Math is not a subject, it’s a language,” Love told the youths. The youths, in turn, seemed to respond in a positive, eye-opening way to his message. Many indicated they were inspired to consider a career in engineering.
This is the sort of programming that we need in our schools, and South Williamsport is fortunate to have a foundation in place to provide this type of opportunity.
When people make donations to support educational foundations, whether it be in South Williamsport or any other school district, we could add up the dollars in simple math.
Or we could look at those donations as the language of love.
