Blessings of children include a challenge for local communities
Countdown to Thanksgiving
Whitney Houston sang that “children are our future” back in 1985. Since that time, that phrase has been so often quoted that it’s almost cliche.
Except it’s not. That phrase is truth.
Nelson Mendela, in 1995, expanded on this idea, saying: “Our children are the rock on which our future will be built, our greatest asset as a nation.”
They also are our greatest asset as a city, as a county, as a region. Many really great children have been born and live here. Often we read or hear about unselfish acts or ways that they inspire others around them. They have done us proud many times over, in so many ways.
Of course, our challenge is to make this a community where they want to stay or return to as young adults. Nonetheless, today’s offering of thanks is for the blessings of children felt throughout the communities of this region.
