Huts of Hope offer dignity in new way

Gloves. Toothpaste. Deodorant. Soap.

Basics to many, but to others, they lack money to buy these basic personal items.

The YWCA of Northcentral Pa. recently decided to do something about that and erected the first of four planned “Huts of Hope” in front of its West Fourth Street location. Others will be placed in other areas that have yet to be determined.

Passersby will have access to these basic items that may be outside of their budget. Items will rotate, based on the time of year.

“We understand how impactful personal hygiene and comfort can be to someone in need,” said Jernae Drummond, YWCA Liberty House program manager.

Indeed, this small gesture exemplifies the YWCA’s dedication to promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
