Loyalty of a good pet nothing to be taken for granted

Countdown to Thanksgiving

About 85 million families in the United States own a pet, or about 67 percent of our nation’s households.

That’s according to the 2019-20 National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association.

From families raising children to young singles in their first homes to elderly widows and widowers, our fur babies provide a source of comfort and joy for two out of every three households.

More than 63.4 million households include a dog; cats find their places in 42.7 million domiciles; still other types of pets ranging from fish to horses may be found in American homes.

The loyalty of a good pet is nothing to be taken for granted. Their presence is always felt; and when they are gone, their absence may be mourned just as deeply as that of any other family member.

So, yes, we are thankful for the loyalty — and the love we feel — from our faithful, fur babies.
