Little League gives us hope for big celebration in 2022
Should all go well, we can expect some big doings in the summer of 2022.
With what would have been this year’s 75th annual Little League World Series canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, plans are underway to celebrate the 75th edition of the Series in 2022.
In concert with that, the 28th Little League International Congress will be relocated from Anaheim, California, to Williamsport in June.
Held every four years, the International Congress will be staged throughout the Williamsport community from June 10 to 13. The last time it was here was in 1989 and coincided with the 50th anniversary of the organization.
And then will come the Series in August — and the fans, and the world — to witness children at play on the ballfield.
We’ve missed the excitement of the annual celebration of youth sports this summer. It has been way too quiet as we’ve waited out the coronavirus while exercising an abundance of caution and adhering to the prescribed protocol to protect ourseves, our families and community.
Nothing could make us happier now than to see this dreadful situation pass and to watch, again, as the community welcomes youngsters from around the world with a spectacular parade, lots of pin trading, seeing our area highlighted on national television and, of course, baseball games galore.
We wish Little League success in its plans for 2022.
