Tech specialists saved the day for our children

Today we send out a big — no, a huge — round of applause to the technology specialists who have kept our children’s education on track over the course of the past year.

We are following the lead of Dr. Timothy S. Bowers, superintendent of the Williamsport Area School District, who recently gave a “shout out” to the district’s technology department for all that they accomplished during the past year of COVID-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic presented among the greatest challenges we as a community, as well as our state, nation and world, have had to face.

Massive lockdown orders have interfered with our normal routines, and that includes the routines of our children.

Nobody wanted to see them sitting at home, backsliding even more than what already occurs over the summer recess.

So imagine how different the situation would have been without today’s modern technology, which allowed many people to work from home and our offspring to keep up, as best as possible, with their schooling and the people who knew how to make it all happen on short notice.

When the pandemic began, had anybody envisioned how we would be able to provide education under the circumstances we have faced in the past year?

Maybe in science fiction …

So, yes, our hats are off with the deepest of gratitude and respect for what members of technology departments across the board have been able to achieve in the past year.

Since last March, we found many heroes.

We would be remiss to overlook these specialists and what their skill sets have meant to our community as we persevered during these difficult times.
