Short on facts

Some recent letters were short on facts. One letter states why we salute the flag. While the bravery and achievement of Sgt. Carney is admirable and deserving of the Medal of Honor, it is not the reason we salute the flag. He saved the regimental colors, not the U.S. flag.

President Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, inserted into the Flag Code the salute during WWII to counter the Nazi salute which the American citizens found uncomfortable. Protesting is another expression of our nation’s freedoms.

President John Adams never said “There are two ways to enslave and conquer a nation. The first is Debt, the second is the Sword.” This would explain why the words of Dr. Adrian Rogers and Mao Zedong were needed to explain the quote instead of Adams own words. Basing your argument on a false quote does not make your argument sound.

The Democratic Party does not have a national platform for the 2018 mid-terms. They are letting each candidate run on a platform of their own choosing. The platforms for Democratic candidates are local.

The Nazi party used a gun registration law passed by Germany in 1928 before the Nazi party came into being to find political enemies from a gun registration. They passed a law in 1938 which gave German citizens a lot more access to guns and ammunition even children under 18 could buy, sell and own a gun with local officials permission.

A hunting license allowed you to own, buy, sell and carry a handgun even when not hunting. German citizens had guns under the rule of Hitler and the Nazi party. Only one group could not, The Jewish people. The German people had guns to use against Hitler and the Nazis. They did not see a reason to do so.

Hitler and the Nazi party even were able to justify mass killing by taking out supposed enemies within the Nazi party before the rounding up of the Jewish population.
