How ideas develop

Today, no one believes the sun and planets revolve around the Earth. But 500 years ago it was common knowledge and an article of faith for the Catholic Church. Then in 1543, Copernicus offered mathematical evidence to support his belief that all the planets revolved around the sun. The evidence he provided to support that idea was flawed in that it was not able to predict the orbits of the planets with complete accuracy.

In fact, it took several centuries of advances in technology, mathematics, and physics to refine Copernicus’s idea to the point that scientists could predict the motion of the planets around the sun with sufficient accuracy to send probes to other planets and men to the moon.

This process of gradual refinement is common in science. Those who dismiss Evolution and human impact on global warming because there are gaps and inconsistencies in both theories should keep this process in mind.
