A class act
At 6 p.m. this past Friday night, my son called and said, “Get to the game early, both bands are playing at 6:30. In two minutes we were headed to Hughesville. Surprise, veterans and seniors got in free. I qualified for both. First we witnessed a ceremony for Pvt. Trick, the fallen World War II soldier from Hughesville brought home last week. Second we saw the two bands put on a beautiful performance. The Montoursville band was much larger but Hughesville at least had their uniforms on and the show was fantastic.
The lead Hughesville football player running onto the field carried a large American flag. The NFL should take note. Then six paratroopers floated down from the sky, each one making a picture-perfect landing at midfield. Forget the game.
After the game, the Hughesville band put on a very nice performance, followed by fireworks which were one of the best shows I’ve seen in 82 years.
Ten years from now, I may forget the score of the football game, but I will never forget the class act Hughesville produced at the football game Friday night.
