Consider this

Consider, if you will, and reflect on the situation left by a failed democratic effort called the Weimar Republic. After a five-year effort, the leaders from a long past are old and weary. So a much younger and vigorous zealot is able to act on his collected thoughts (in Mein Kampf) with little opposition. He becomes chancellor at the end of January 1933, and in two and a half months has total government control.

And yet he still could have been stopped if citizens would resolve to be more than just “good Germans.”
