Doonesbury

One of your readers recently called for the removal of the Doonesbury comic strip from the Sunday paper. Gary Trudeau’s strip has done political and social commentary since the 1960s. Trudeau has won many awards for the strip including a Pulitzer, a Reuben, and a Commanders award for public service from the Army. The strip often includes political satire which is only appropriate when applied to people in power. Go back a few years and you will find strips lampooning Reagan and both Bushes but also both Clintons, Obama and several other Democratic candidates. Some of those were even funny, at least in my opinion. Why he seems to go after Donald relentlessly is that Donald is such an easy target. He commits his crimes in plain sight and then he lies about it or claims that it wasn’t a crime at all, in my opinion. I also believe he can’t be charged with a crime because he owns the Justice Department and he probably won’t be impeached because he owns the Republicans in the Senate and they probably wouldn’t have the courage to convict him if he shot someone on Fifth Avenue.

Donald has kept his promises. He has weakened our traditional alliances like NATO, turned Syria over to his Russian friends, abandoned our Kurdish allies to the Turks and is in the process of turning Iraq over to Iran. He has crippled the State Department, FBI and EPA and run the deficit and debt through the roof. What’s not to lampoon?
