Memorial Day service at Veterans Memorial Park
For the first time in over 20 years, the Lycoming County Veterans Council will not sponsor a Memorial Day service at Veterans Park. After much consideration it was decided by the Park Commission to forgo the annual Memorial Day service due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This does not mean we should forget what Memorial Day means or those who offered up their lives for the freedoms we enjoy. Honoring our heroes is a very responsible thing to do not only on Memorial Day but every chance we get. Forgotten respect can and will lead to the fall of our great Nation. It is through respect and honor that we remember what our military did and does every day to assure that our freedoms and rights as Americans continue. The United States of America did not get where we are by chance. It was through dedication, risk of life and fortune by our forefathers and our military that we enjoy the freedoms and wonderful country we live in.
Remember “Freedom is not Free.” Many have given their lives and health to pay for it. So this year when you are enjoying your picnic or whatever you do on Memorial Day, say a prayer of thanks for those who are not with us anymore who made the sacrifice so we may enjoy our Memorial Day.
See you next year at the park.
