Time to sign

Constitutional Carry has passed both our state House and state Senate. It is time for Governor Wolf to sign it into law.

Pennsylvania would be the 22nd state to have such a law on the books. Some have argued that such a law would lead to more violence. However, we have not seen any such trend in the other 21 states that have enacted similar legislation.

Four of the top five safest states in America (Vermont, Maine, Utah and Wyoming) all provide for Constitutional (or permitless) carry. The top 10 safest states in 2020 included six with Constitutional Carry on the books. All 21 states that have Constitutional Carry have seen a decrease in their violent crime rates.

Failing to pass this bill into law, in my opinion, will continue the disenfranchisement of citizens who cannot afford the fees and costs associated with permits. Law-abiding citizens already pass a background check when purchasing their firearms. The same background check is simply run a second time when they apply for a concealed carry permit, so the process is redundant.

Governor Wolf needs to remember and uphold the words of Article I, Section 21 of the Pennsylvania State Constitution: “The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.”
