A better headline

I write as a resident of Old Lycoming Township and a concerned and avid recycler. I believe there was a missed opportunity for consumer education with the front page article of June 17, “When in Doubt, Throw it Out.” Perhaps a headline of “When in Doubt, Check it Out” would be more appropriate.

Being conscious of the life of product containers/wrappings before purchasing affects the usage and reuse. The availability to reuse or repurpose is paramount to waste disposal. Toss-aways just add to the landfill and ultimately pollution. Google, Lycoming County Landfill and Penn State Extension offices are all sources of contacts for helpful information regarding environmental care.

July is a month to consider going “plastic free.” Not an easy task with all the conveniences of summer. However, it would mark a start for more awareness.
