Making a decision

As a “swing” voter until just this week, I’d like to share how I finally made my choice for President. My light-bulb moment is mostly due to the crucial necessity for checks and balances.

The all-important Senate will flip to Republican (52 R to 48 D, at least), the House is predicted to stay red, and Republicans already have a super-majority controlled Supreme Court (6 to 3). Although I find some of his policies better than what Biden did, a Trump win would mean there’s no “balance” of power in our great yet divided country.

Additionally, you’ll remember that The Supreme Court surprisingly granted Trump full immunity, so his second term would give him absolute power to do anything he wants. No one should have that much unchecked power.

I was concerned that a President Harris would give away a bunch of free stuff. Then I realized she will have to govern as a moderate and make compromises on the economy and immigration given the R-controlled Congress. That’s why I am no longer on the fence — a moderate in the White House is exactly what we need right now.

A vote for Harris/Walz is a vote for what our wise Founding Fathers envisioned: a fair place where different branches of government can “check” each other.
