Perilous times

Comparing the attributes of Trump to Lincoln directly, as a letter in the Oct. 22 edition attempted, is an exercise in absurdity. Consider a president’s most important duty, to uphold the law. Lincoln venerated the law, lived and died by the law, and respected the dignity and sanctity of the Oath of Office down to his marrow. Trump has nothing but contempt for the law, or any oath or tradition that comes between him and power.

If the coming election is about one thing, it is the rule of law. All else, immigration, inflation, these can be fixed. What can’t be fixed is the disregard for the rule of law.

Lincoln understood this. Trump can not.

Oh, what perilous times we live in!
