Deportations and tariffs
As Trump gears up for his mass deportations and across the board tariffs, here are few items he should, but won’t, keep in mind.
First, Mass Deportations: Many businesses and industries rely on undocumented workers. That’s why the Texas legislature, that bastion of border security, doesn’t enforce E-verify in private industries. The agriculture and construction industries objected because they would be crippled by the loss of workers.
And, if the deportations do occur, I certainly hope equal attention is paid to the employers who hired these undocumented workers. They should face fines and/or jail time for each undocumented worker they employed.
Second, Across The Board Tariffs: The businesses exporting their foreign made goods to the US pay nothing.
The businesses importing those foreign made goods into the US pay the tariff to our government. It is a tax. Then that business has to decide if they are going to pass the increased costs on to the consumer. Funny how Trump never mentioned these “small items”.
