Ain't that a shame. Obama can't get enough votes from his fellow democrats to support his agenda. Then you have dullards who explain it away saying it wouldn't have passed the house any way.

I am against new infringements on the Second Amendment because it is knee-jerk, hysterical reaction to do "something." The new law cannot be demonstrated to have any effect on the crime it is said to address. That's not how laws should be written.

Also, according a Rasmussen poll, while 90% believe that universal background checks are a good idea, only 41% believe they'll have any effect on gun violence.

So that means that half of the oft-cited "90%" just what a new law, regardless of whether it helps. And Congress is more than happy to go along with the delusion.

I am reacting to the rest of letter Vince. Obama is a dictator and they are coming for our guns and so forth and so on. All we are getting is weaken universal background check but the way gun advocates act it is the end of the Second Amendment. This is just the beginning!

"Over 80% of Americans and this includes Republicans support universal background checks. But the hysterical in a tizzy gun advocates are deaf to that."

Did not the letter explicitly state that nobody argues with background checks? So why do you, Chuck, argue as though the letter took the opposite position?

'libotards'

You wonder why I react the way I do tom the knuckle dragging conservative/libertarians who post here.

Over 80% of Americans and this includes Republicans support universal background checks. But the hysterical in a tizzy gun advocates are deaf to that.

"We are barely going to get a debate in Congress over universal background checks let alone a bill. So you are hyterical and in a tizzy." - Chuck said

So you mean that once this current bill is defeated you lefties are going to stop trying? You libotards never stop with your agenda even when you know you will lose. That's why we on the right will never stop opposing your socialist and unconstitutional goals.

Even though I like Biden, I do have to admit that he does suffer from the human version of anthrax, that being "foot in mouth disease."

No, he never said that...but, Thanks!!...for starting your letter with a lie.

He'd SUGGESTED you'd (only) need to cut a couple "rounds" LOOSE...in-the-AIR...to scare-off (and, WARN) any intruders that might have tried to force entry, into your home.

You DO know Porky Limbaugh, FAUX Noise...and, now, The NY Post...LIE, to you, right??

"Nobody can argue against some type of more thorough background checks for gun purchases...." Actually, a lot of folks posting letters and comments in support of gun ownership have done just that.

".....but it has to start with better screening of the mentally ill and that's something the ACLU has stymied for years." I would much rather the government knew what kind of guns I owned, as well as having the Supreme Court help clarify what weapons aren't covered by the 2nd Amendment, than I would have the government keeping track of who is and isn't "mentally ill".

This letter is what I would expect from a fear monering, ill informed gun advocate.

Military style 'assault' weapons has been tabled from discussion as is large capacity clips. We are barely going to get a debate in Congress over universal background checks let alone a bill. So you are hyterical and in a tizzy.

If the Democrats win the House and Congress next year, yes you will see a full blown dictatorship. The passing of every radical bill possible with no accountability. The dictator will most probably end the 8-year term limit of the President and just name himself Dictator in Chief until he passes the torch to the next Radical in Chief. Why would you put anything past this administration. What protects you, the Constitution. Yeah right, like our dictator has even bothered to abide by that. He is continually going against it and has even made statements that it limits him. A man like he is the full reason our forefathers wrote the Constitution. Once again, you are witnessing the destruction of America presided over by Barack Hussein Obama, Dictator!

he better hurry up with the dictatorship. We are only a few years from the next election. The government can not get anything done (taking the position of the right) and you believe that all the guns will be seized within a few years?

d- that's a tough one. Will you let the "brownshirts" push you around like during Katrina? Can we find a safe place to hide our guns? Will they arrest you for no surrendering your guns? It's a possible scenario that, frankly, I don't want to go through. Does anybody have a game plan?
