TOWANDA - Alan D. Vanderpool, 33, of Rome, was killed Friday when he lost control of the car he was driving, and it rolled over several times, ejecting him and his passenger, Joseph P. Neely, 24, of Wysox.
According to state police, Vanderpool and Neely were traveling south in a 2004 Nissan Maxima on James Street in Sheshequin Township at a high rate of speed around 11 a.m. when Vanderpool lost control of the car on a gradual right hand curve.
The car traveled into the northbound lane, and then slid back across the southbound lane, leaving the roadway.
The car flipped over numerous times in a farm field, and both occupants were ejected.
Vanderpool was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bradford County coroner, and Neely was flown by medical helicopter to Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, with major injuries. Neely's condition was not available Friday.
State police were assisted at the scene by the Ulster/Sheshequin Fire Department, the North Towanda Fire Department, Ulster EMS, Memorial EMS and Guthrie Air.
