After someone stole Shyniqah Diamond Lightner's cellphone, the 21-year-old Philadelphia woman, along with friend, Latasha D. Miller, decided simply to take someone else's, a city police officer wrote in an affidavit.
Lightner and Miller, 22, also of Philadelphia, have been charged with theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy for allegedly stealing Victoria Maeshack's cellphone at West Fourth Street and Seventh Avenue about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
Lightner approached Maeshack and asked her if she could use her cellphone to make an emergency call, police were told. After the woman handed over her cellphone, Lightner simply started to walk away, along with Miller.
After police responded and stopped the two women, Miller, who had been given the cellphone by Lightner, handed it over to an officer.
"Yes, I stole it. I had mine stolen so I figured I would do it to somebody else," Lightner admitted to the officer.
Lightner and Miller were arraigned hours later before District Judge Jerry C. Lepley and released on $7,500 bail each.
