WELLSBORO - Jason Paul Giles, 28, of 19 Burton Hill Road, is in Tioga County Prison following charges he stole five guns and a pair of binoculars from a farmhouse in Wellsboro.
The guns were reported missing by Evelyn Parsons, whose family farmhouse, a seasonal residence, allegedly had been burglarized between April 22 to 24. The guns missing were:
30-06 Enfield rifle with a sporterized stock
Model 94 Winchester .32-caliber lever-action rifle
16-gauge muzzleloader double-barrel percussion gun with missing hammers
12-gauge double-barrel shotgun with external hammers
.22-caliber bolt-action rifle
A confidential informant informed Wellsboro police that Giles was attempting to sell guns matching the above description. An undercover officer purchased several guns from Giles in the parking lot of Weis Markets. Giles was taken into custody and a search warrant was secured for his residence. There, the remainder of the guns allegedly were found, including one hidden beneath loose floor boards.
Giles, unable to post $15,000 bail, is awaiting a Tuesday preliminary hearing before Judge Robert Repard.
