Quilt Guild to host workshop
WELLSBORO - The Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild will host Gyleen X. Fitzgerald for a lecture and workshop for quilters.
Her lecture, "The Art of Color Blending," will be given 7 p.m. Friday at the Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center, 134 Main St., and is open to the public.
The workshop, "Going in Circles," will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 130 Main St.
A limited number of spaces are available for the workshop at a cost of $60.
Fitzgerald was born in Philadelphia, but grew up in Taiwan and Japan. Those formative years in the Far East developed her love for simplistic artistry. She began needlework at the age 4 and has since pursued artistic expression in drawing and quilt making.
Her quilts blend color, pattern and texture to provide a contemporary essence to traditional quilting.
Her strength as a quilter is demonstrated by the infusion of engineering tools and techniques to simplify visually complex quilts.
She shares her enthusiasm for quilting through interactive lectures and workshops. Her written works center around haiku poetry, quilt project books, patterns, magazine articles and children's books.
Gyleen has appeared on "The Quilt Show" and Lifetime promoting finishing antique quilts and the new spirit of traditional quilting.
In addition to sharing her talents on her website www.colourfulstitches.com she has an active social media.
